JANUARY: #SOULEBRITY of the Month

JOSEPH TOBIN

#SOULEBRITY - Joseph.png

We started the idea of featuring a #SOULEBRITY of the month with the intention of bringing someone well known to light that uses their platform to inspire others, does great things in the world and connects others #soul2soul.  Aside from them being "famous", we look for someone that exemplifies our #soul values.

Our January #SOULEBRITY of the month is none other than Destiny's brother, JOSEPH TOBIN.  While he may not be a household name he is certainly known in many households and has touched the lives of many, many people.

We chose to honor and recognize, Joseph, (born Joseph Matranga on January 6th, 1977 who suddenly passed away just two days after his 34th birthday on January 8th, 2011) because he is the epitome of someone who not only used his gifts and talents through his music to uplift others but his life and spirit has literally connected a tapestry of friendships and love all around.

In fact, #SOULSHIFT would not even exist without him.  It was through the #soulful connection and brotherhood of Joseph and Johan (Colette's now husband) that brought us together.   After Joseph passed, Johan met Colette whom he introduced to Destiny.  Through that connection, an instant friendship and #soulsisterhood was born and a few years later, we started collaborating and created #SOULSHIFT!!  It is amazing to think about the dots connected through Joseph, because it is an example of the power of #soul2soul connections. Never knowing how one thing will lead to the next or what will open up....

Joseph was known for being able to instantly connect with someone on a #soul level and having friendships with people from all walks of life all over the world.  As his sister (and author of this post) I can't tell you how many stories I have been blessed to hear from so many different people over the years of how he changed their life in some way or his song impacted them.  He was a a singer songwriter known for his raw vulnerability by baring his heart in his music and writing from the depths of his #soul that reached the hearts of those on the same level.  In fact, we invite you to hear for yourself by listening to his collection of songs (a few written with Johan)! Here is a link to his music: https://itunes.apple.com/us/artist/joseph-tobin/274743925

Joseph was a ONE IN A MILLION MAN and are proud to introduce you to him as our #soulebrity this month.  We share his song with you called just that, ONE IN A MILLION MAN and hope it inspires you to #soulstretch yourself to be a ONE IN A MILLION #SOUL by stepping up in your life, making a difference and choosing the be a part of the change you wish to see in the world.  #soulitforward

One In A Million Man by Joseph Tobin

It's a stare down now
Between me and the homeless man outside
It's a stare down now
Between me and the homeless man and I
Will he beg me for change
Or is he praying for change
Could I take a minute of my precious time
And ask him his name
Or drop my coins and run
Like he's used to seeing done
Do I have the strength tonight
To look straight into his eyes
And take the risk to see his pain
To look deep into his old weathered eyes
And see what makes this old man cry

I want to be that one in a million man
Lord, help me be that one in a million man
That takes the time to change someone's day
And see the world how it really is.

It's a stare down now
Between me and this little kid and I right now
It's a stare down now
Between this little child and I
Will he tug at my shirt
With his hands caked in dirt
Should I nod and walk on by
Like the other giants might
Could I take a minute of my precious day
And ask him to play
Do I have the time right now
To get down on my knees
To see if this one knows his A-B-C's
To fall right down on my privileged knees
And see how high he can count for me

I want to be that one in a million man
Lord, help me be that one in a million man
That takes the time to break from his day
And spend the time where it's needed most

Cause I don't want to wake up
At 70 years old
And realize I have no story to be told
Cause I don't want to look back
And regret what I've seen
I hope when people look they see a man in me
And they say
That one there
Is a one in a million man
And they say
Look at that one there
He took the time
To be a one in a million man

It's a stare down now
With my reflection and I right now
It's a stare down now
With my reflection and I right now
Will I say that I've seen life
Or that it passed me by...
